So It's Into Your Will

Out of My Hands
Matthew West

There you go changing my plans again
There you go shifting my sands again
For reasons I don't understand again
Lately I don't have a clue

Just when I start liking what I see
There you go changing my scenery
I never know where you're taking me
But I'm trying just to follow you

It's out of my hands
It's out of my reach
It's over my head
And it's out of my league
There's too many things
That I don't understand
So it's into your will
And it's out of my hands

There you go healing these scars again
Showing me right where you are again
I'm helpless, and that's where I start again
I'm giving it all up to you

It's out of my hands
It's out of my reach
It's over my head
And it's out of my league
There's too many things
That I don't understand
So it's into your will
And it's out of my hands

Move me, make me
Choose me, change me
Send me, shake me
Find me, remind me
The past is behind me
Take it all away
Take it all from me, I pray

It's out of my hands
It's out of my reach
It's over my head
And it's out of my league
There's too many things
That I don't understand
So it's into your will
And it's out of my hands

This song is self-explanatory. I heard it on Pandora tonight and immediately knew that God was looking out for me and lifting my spirits as soon as He knew they were down. God will take care of you.

How Great

Last night, in the midst of doing at-home work, I was watching The Sound of Music. Julie Andrews is one of my favorites, so I at least had to have the background noise of the Von Trapp family as I wrote.

As Maria was leaving the convent at the beginning of the film, she simply stated, "When the Lord closes a door, he opens a window." In The Sound of Music, He gave Maria a loving life with a man and children who learned from her. In my life, He's given me opportunities for new beginnings and opportunities for testimony. How blessed am I to receive God's grace and share it with others?

Because I love to write and jump at the chance to fill up a blank page, I want to share a recent addition to my life's testimony with whomever reads my blog.

A few months ago, I thought I was going to be moving six hours away to further my education. I had a plan. For those of you who know me, you know I like plans. Everything seemed to be working out smoothly, but God had other plans for me. He knew it would be best if he placed a tiny bump in my road. At the time, of course, I was perplexed. I didn't have a plan. Then I remembered that the Lord directs my paths, not me.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." -- Proverbs 3:5,6

As a backup, I applied to another school without much consideration. He knew me. He knew I would want another plan.

I visited that school and fell in love with the idea of it. I would be close to my home and I would be able to live in a city that I knew well...a city in which I've always wanted to reside. The professors were so nice and I felt comfortable there (I had the MSU feeling). A few weeks later I was accepted into the program, but found out it was too late to apply for an assistantship, which would have paid for out-of-state tuition.

Another bump in the road. A test of my faith and patience.

I searched for jobs, more importantly I searched for peace. As a worrier, this was difficult, but my support system assured me that it would be ok.

Then, I was surprised. God does that to me a lot. I received a phone call one afternoon, after I sent my assistantship application in way in advance for the Fall 2011 semester, from my graduate advisor telling me there was an opening for this spring. How great is our God? How awesome is His timing? He took care of me and showed me the importance of the things I talk about often:

TRUST, FAITH & PATIENCE.

Doors may be closed, but as Maria said, windows open. No one, but our Heavenly Father, has the power and strength to move mountains and make the impossible possible. I pray that I never forget that and that my short testimony helps you to remember it when times are wonderful and when times are trying.

Simply,

Thou Art the Potter, I Am the Clay

How often do we want our way with life? For me, its way more than I would like to admit to. I always want to make my own decisions and make my own plans.

As most of you know, I'm in the process of making a decision about my immediate future in graduate school. I'm faced with the fear of moving far away from home or living in a very large city. Pro & con lists have been compiled in my head. I've had many discussions with my family & my friends. And, I've asked God to show me the way, but I'm not sure if I've been listening to Him closely. I trust that He will lead me to the right place and His will WILL be done.

Tonight at church, we sang this song -- how amazing are these lyrics? I don't want my way in this decision. I want His way.

Have Thine Own Way, Lord

Adelaide A. Pollard, 1862-1934

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after thy will,
while I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Search me and try me, Savior today!
Wash me just now, Lord, wash me just now,
as in thy presence humbly I bow.

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me I pray!
Power, all power, surely is thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine!

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Hold o'er my being absolute sway.
Fill with thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me!

Lucky No. 7

Ok, so I've been slacking on blogging lately. To explain: Two jobs + Grad School plans = sleepiness.

Here's a little update on life:

1. God is great and He truly does take care of those who love and trust in Him.

2. The beach makes me smile and I'm so thankful that I was able to spend a few restful days there with my mom.

3. I need to go see The Social Network.

4. Olivia is a very intelligent 15-month old and she's the apple of my eye!

5. Still waiting for the lid to my pot - see previous blog titled, "Relationships & Cooking Utensils," for an explanation.

6. I would love to see Starkville soon. Now I understand why my professors said that college is the best part of one's life.

7. Speaking of Starkville...I love those Bulldogs and I'm thrilled that we are ranked!

Seven seems like a good number.

Then Sings My Soul

Tonight, I went to dinner with some of my old and new friends. After our meal came, one of them said, "Who's going to say the blessing?" My cousin, Samuel, volunteered. We then held hands as he blessed our fabulous Mugshots meal.

The reverence and grace that I felt during those few minutes were incredible. Here we were in the middle of one of Starkville's most popular restaurants thanking God for providing for us and blessing our lives. How amazing is that feeling?

In my life, I've received so much all because God provides. For 22 years, He's taken me down the right path and kept me safe and secure. My paramount goal and focus right now is to continue to trust, obey, listen, believe, and praise in my, no our, amazing God.

I want to share my favorite hymn sung by an amazing performer. It's truly uplifting.

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think of God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And lead me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, with humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

Proverbs 3:5,6

I wrote this in January and I wanted to share it with my friends outside of Facebook. So, enjoy!

My mother has a way of speaking to me every Sunday morning without using her own words, whether she means to or not. Through her piano, she plays hymns that touch my soul and lift me up. I know that God is speaking through my mother and her piano, and it is an incredible feeling.

Lately, I've been concerned about my future (life after college). I've conversed with my mom and dad a lot this weekend about jobs, moving away, moving home, etc, etc. They always tell me it will all work out. Their words are repetitive but amazingly uplifting.

"Courtney, it will work out. It always does for you."

This morning, she played this song. It had been a while since we sang it. Sometimes I wonder if she does this purposefully. One day, I'll ask her. Until then, I know to listen to the hymns from church and the words from my parents.

God will take care of me. He has a plan. I have to trust in Him completely.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." -- Proverbs 3:5,6

God Will Take Care of You
~ Civilla D. Martin, 1869-1948

Be not dismayed whate'er betide,
God will take care of you;
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.

God will take care of you,
Thru ev'ry day, O'er all the way;
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.

Thru days of toil when heart doth fail,
God will take care of you;
When dangers fierce your path assail,
God will take care of you.

All you may need He will provide,
God will take care of you;
Nothing you ask will be denied,
God will take care of you.

No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you;
Lean, weary one, upon His breast,
God will take care of you.

These words are applicable in all situations (not just Courtney's life after college) and its a calming feeling to know that God will take care of you.
